Weekend Market

We continue to thank the Father for giving us good, healthy days. Our time in this city was so unexpected, but He knew He would bring us here to get good medical treatment as well as some refreshing moments together as a family. We are excited to see the city slowly getting back to normal (although as Americans experienced after 9/11, there will be a new normal for the millions who live here). Since the skytrain opened back up today, we decided to spend the afternoon riding above this amazing city. For a little next to nothing, the 5 of us walked to the nearest station and rode to the very end where the incredible Weekend Market was waiting for us.

Here comes the train.....

We had a great birds eye view of the city....and as a bonus, the skytrain is fully air-conditioned!

We also rode right through the Victory Monument area of Bangkok, a section of the city that commemorates the Thai victory in a conflict between France and Thailand back in the mid-20th century. It's a beautiful monument ... and a great history lesson for us all.

We speak no Thai, so it's always fun to meet people who speak English. This lady was going to the same area as us and showed us how to get where we were going.

We finally made it to the Weekend Market. We had heard about this place but couldn't really get it until we saw it with our own eyes. We have some garage salin' people in our family, umm...Christina, Barry, Grandmother...that would go nuts over this place. Not only are prices good on most everything, it is apparently common practice to ask them to come down in price .... AND THEY DO!!! :) We had a great time buying some cheap stuff ... a couple more elephants for Noah's collection, Asian wooden and silk umbrellas, some jewelry (yes, we found a place that would rival Sam Moon for our D/FW friends - see picture below).

And for those wanting to eat, well ... there was plenty to eat!

Emma even found a popsicle for 4 bahts each ... so she had TWO!! We don't have these where we live, so for Emma, this day couldn't have been any better!!

There were also some somber moments on our ride there and back home. The skytrain went directly through the district that was one of the main "battlegrounds" for the recent attacks on the city. The pictures below really don't show the true damage of the area.

We made it back to our station and stopped by the grocery store to pick up a few things ... and then made it back home to see our goods. We didn't buy a whole lot, but we loved the things we bought, including Noah's new elephants. He didn't start his collection until we moved overseas, but he loves scouting out for the perfect addition to his small collection. He's very proud of the 3 he found over the past couple days!
