Remembering her Poppie....

Like everyone else in our family, our kids were just devastated when we got the call that their Poppie had so unexpectedly passed away. Before we could even think about it, we were on a plane heading back to the states to be with our family. It was a hard time, but it was also a time of reflecting on what a great man he was and how so very important he was to our family. It's hard to think about really, but because of her age, Emma won't have the memories of him that Elizabeth and Noah have. We will always keep alive for her just how much he loved her.

Emma was the inquisitive child who "got up in his business" when it came to his meds, his shots, and any other medical thing that she thought was interesting. She misses her Poppie and has carried around his obitiuary card from his funeral. She put it in her purse the day of his funeral and continues to carry it around with her today.

You can tell by how "rough" it looks that it has been in the hands of a 6 year old.

What was especially touching to us is her own little tribute she wrote out in her own words on the back page. We're not really sure when she wrote it, but it's a gentle reminder to us just how deep a 6 year old can love.

I just read this and was so touched by her sweet words. What a special child she is. I will never forget her trying to help him feel better by 'doctoring' his his feet and how Poppie loved it when she asked him, "Poppie, are you allowed to have that?" I love that little girl and she made her grandmother smile through the tears tonight!!! Love you all so much.
