Big day for celebrations!!

Today is a big day for our country ... it was 63 years ago today that Ind!a became independent from the British rule. Just like July 4th in America, there were flags flying throughout the country. A group of volunteers from our apartment complex put together a huge celebration with food, games, and lots of cultural activities. The picture below is of Gandhi and was set up for people to show their respect for him by leaving flowers.

So many people turned out to celebrate freedom. While there is freedom to some degree, the majority of people continue to live their lives in bondage.

A nice family we met for the first time today .... the little boy was absolutely precious and NOT shy at all!

Emma had SO much fun playing with her friends!!

We also had our own day of celebrating. Jazzy celebrated her 1st birthday in a Hello-Kitty-kind-of-way! She quickly found her way not only into our home but into our hearts as well! The kids love her ... and well, we kind of do, too! This is Jazzy then....

And this is her now ... fat, sassy, and definitely queen of the flat! :)

Noah lighting her birthday candle, better known as a torch. It has one center candle that connects to 6-8 smaller candles in a circle. When they are lit, flames/sparks shoot up and the happy birthday song starts playing. We've had a blast with these candles, but Jazzy clearly did not.

Noah giving a little assistance....

It was a fun, short party ... but for some reason, Jazzy just couldn't get past the crazy candle!
